Joe Belmonte
Process Engineer/Process Engineering Manager

Joe has been a process engineer and process engineering manager in the electronic manufacturing industry for over 27 years. Joe Belmonte has been a Project Manger at Speedline Technologies Advanced Process Group in Foxborough Massachusetts, USA for the last two years.

Joe's primary responsibilities include managing advanced process development projects (Lead Free Process Development Program, High Volume Fuel Cell Process Development Program, 0201 and Fine Feature Assembly Component Process Development), working with customers on process improvement programs, and providing process training.

Joe spent the previous four years working as a consultant with customers on quality and cycle time improvement projects. During this time Joe was one of the primary developers and instructors of the Cookson Electronics "Electronic Process Engineer Certification Program". This program served as the foundation and influence for the now industry recognized SMTA Process Engineering Certification Program.

From 1995 to 1999 Joe worked at Cookson Electronics Equipment Group/MPM as the Director of Process Technology. In this capacity Joe managed the Application Engineering and Process Development Functions. These two groups were responsible for the validation of all new Cookson Electronics Equipment Group/MPM equipment and equipment features, supporting customers with process introduction and/or process improvements, and developing new processes to expand the market of Cookson Electronics Equipment Group/MPM Products. In this role Joe also participated in several Cookson Electronics Process Assessment Teams at customers in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Asia, and Europe that evaluated customer operations and provided recommendations on process improvements.

Prior to joining Cookson Electronics Equipment Group/MPM in 1995, Joe worked as a process engineer and process engineering manager at Motorola ISG in Mansfield Massachusetts for 18 years. For his last six years at Motorola Joe was the Manager of the SMT Manufacturing Engineering Group. Joe and his group were responsible the design, installation, day-to-day support, quality and productivity improvements of the SMT manufacturing operation. Joe' group consisted of 20 engineers and technicians that supported a 24 hour per day SMT process. This operation achieved one of the lowest defect rates in Motorola in a low volume very high mix operation.

Joe was a member of the Motorola Corporate TOPS (Technical Operations) Council. The TOPS Council members were the manufacturing technology managers from Motorola facilities worldwide that set the manufacturing technology direction for the corporation.

Joe was a member of the Motorola ISG Quality Systems Review Team for SMT Assembly Contract Manufactures. In this role Joe and the other team members evaluated and rated potential manufacturing assembly suppliers for productivity and quality. Joe has been a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for 19 years. He served as a member of the Electronic Manufacturing Association of SME Board of Advisors from 1992 to 1997 and again in 2001 and 2002 was the chairman of the EM/SME board of advisors in 1996 and 2002.

Joe has been a member of the Surface Mount Technology Association since 1985. Joe has written papers for and made technical presentation at numerous industry trade shows and professional society meetings including Nepcon West, Nepcon East, IPC/SMTA Conference, APEX, Productronica, Mexitronica, and numerous SMTA Chapter meetings. Joe was also a member of the Cookson Electronics Technology Seminar Team that provides technical presentations to customers worldwide.

Joe is the co-holder of the United States Patent (US Patent Number 6,572,702) for High Speed Electronic Systems and Methods.

Joe holds an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design from Wentworth Institute in Boston and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Technology from Northeastern University in Boston. In addition Joe has completed numerous Motorola training programs include "Design for Manufacturability", "Manufacturing Management", "Design of Experiments", "The Continuous Improvement Process", "Statistical Process Control" and "Quality Systems Review".
